History

Long ago in the 1920's
there were 2 sisters by the name of Jayam and Mangalam of Kerala in India.
Jayam was the disciple of the legendary Ayya Bhagavathar of Chembai village of
Kerala state. Ayya Bhavathar has now come to be known as the father of his
immortal son Sangeetha Kalanidhi Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar. While Jayam
was a performer, Mangalam was the motivator. They learnt and performed
music and composed many songs and wrote a book of music titled "Ambal Sthuthi".
The original book published in 1935 is still preserved by the descendant family
members.
Jaya's daughter Rajalakshmi
became the prime disciple of Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar. She has been
performing and teaching music for more than 50 years. The children and
grand-children of this illustrious family have taken up from where the two
sisters handed over to them to learn, perform and propagate this great Music
and Dance form of Art. The children and grand-children are now distributed all
over India and in the USA. For more details click
